It''s me, GenMedLabMom.
"Who?" you may well ask.
Well, just stick around and find out.
GenMedLabMom was about being mom to a kid with Duchenne and working at the GenMed Center at Children's National in Washington, DC.
Then, the Duchenne Mom creed was 'a future with a wheelchair but hoping for a cure'. GenMedLabMom was about connection between science, Duchenne and the world.
You remember that scene from Shakespeare in Love, where the disguised Viola asks, Tell me how you love her Will and Shakespeare replies "like a sickness and its cure together."? Simply put, the new GenMedLabMom is where connection, whether politics, research, doctoring, helping, not helping - whatever - is the cure.
When I was a kid I hated the way I looked. Every time I looked in the mirror I saw One BIG Freckle. I mean, how can you love a freckle? Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is more than a broken gene. Read on because I'm gonna turn your world on its head and show you that the disease and its cure is paved with a damn universe of connections.
I realize that I was a pretty cute kid with freckles. This is my opportunity to show you Duchenne is more than a disease, it's a connection of destinies. Don't miss it!
Next up, The Sun in my life.
